The plant operates on the gravity flow principle, without intermediate pumping. This minimizes the need to resort to pumps and reduces noise pollution accordingly. The sand and carbon used for water treatment are recycled for later re-use. The Annet-sur-Marne plant has recently been equipped with a system for treatment of the settled material that, from now on, will be dewatered before being sent for disposal. Previously, this material was sent back into the Marne.
